Gender identity of the transgender people have been recognized legally in Turkey since late 80's after having full transition operation and gender change operations have been performed for decades. They can get married and have completely equal rights after obtaining legal approval. You should've known this already if you have lived in Istanbul for a year. There may be LGBT-phobic cases in Turkey as it would be anywhere else in the world. All you need to do is to know your rights and fight for it when necessary. Germany can be more protective about discriminations against LGBT individuals but we read much more transphobic news from the USA compared to Turkey, actually. We have many transgender people in Turkey, including nationwide famous celebrities

I am writing this review in reply to previous comment as someone who has no connection with this venue. I am really getting frustrated by the paranoiac tourists who claims they are being overcharged for the same money we Turkish people pay while for us the drink prices are twice more expensive for local economy standards compared to the European countries. 600 TL for 4 beer (150 TL / 5 $) is the cheapest beer you can find in a gay bar in Istanbul whether you are Turkish, American or Chinese. The waiter obviously offered you 100 Tl discount and you shamelessly giving 1 star review and claim to be scammed for just 3-4 dollar, instead of being grateful. Get a life !

Mor Kedi Cafe - ganz klar unser Favorit der Gay Bars in Istanbul. Wie in allen Gay Bars in Istanbul höhere Preise, aber nicht so übertrieben wie bei den anderen. Die Mitarbeiter sind sehr freundlich, die Gäste sehr angenehm und man bekommt im Gegensatz zu den anderen Bars ein Bier im Glas und nicht einfach nur in der Flasche. Das war die einzige Bar, in der wir das Gefühl hatten, in der Community zu sein. Es ist nur sehr verraucht.
