Istanbul Airport (New Airport) was fully opened opened on April 6th 2019, when the older Ataturk Airport was completely closed same day. Istanbul Airport's IATA code IST, which was being used by Ataturk Airport. Although the capacity of the new Istanbul Airport is one of the biggest in the world, it is much farther then Ataturk, being located roughly 40 km away from city center
